Thank you for the invitation. I avoid my fear like the plague, and I have very little, truly, to fear. I'm a cis white woman in VT; except for the white patriarchy fascist assholes, I have nothing physical to fear. But I avoid feeling the fears I do have, probably because facing them and sitting with them would force me to change certain things in my life that I'm just too tired to change.
But if I can learn to sit with my fear while helping you to sit in yours, I'm here for it. Because the only thing we can all do in the face of what's happening now is come together and keep each other safe.
I've found that the sitting with the fear has to be done first, before we can speculate about any life changes that need to happen. Often those voices about what would happen if you faced your fears, are the just the fear taking different shape. Once you face the fears fully, the next right steps seem to flow much more smoothly.
And it's always easier to do these things together. Having someone, and even better, a lot of someones, be in it with you helps to make it safer, less lonely. We can do this together, and we can keep each other safe. Glad we can be in this together.
Wow! I found this piece so moving. The authenticity, the vulnerability, just beautiful.Your words about the importance of place really resonated with me. I agree 100% - community and togetherness is what we need right now, more than ever. I am here in the fear with you and all who are feeling it 💜
Dear Abi, this is heart wrenching to read, and my heart is with you! ❤️
While I have different fears of my own these days, it pales in comparison to what you are contending with.
Yes, I feel the fear WITH you but ironically, my body is sensing an actual decrease of fear in just saying that.
The knowledge that so many of us are feeling fear in a kind of shared space seems to transform it somehow into something I just can’t quite put my finger on yet.
May the Healers and the Warriors of Peace in all of us rise up and lead the way forward into a more just, honest, and caring world. 🙏❤️🙏
Those who oppress and harm others do so because they are weak and broken inside, and are trying to compensate for that. Of course, that does not mean they’re not dangerous, but it does mean that those of us who are both courageous enough to be our true selves, and also honest enough to acknowledge and feel our deepest emotions, are actually in a stronger position to lead the world forward.
The ones who are trying to pull us backwards into intolerance, division, hatred, etc. are, at their core, weak because they are desperately afraid of what they do not understand, and afraid of losing whatever measure of control over uncertainty they have gained.
History is on our side..
There have always been temporary setbacks, but the strength & nobility of the Human Spirit will not be, and never has been, deterred permanently.
Thank you, friend! That’s the thing, as we face our fears, and sit with them, we can see them for what they are and they no longer have such power over us!
You aren’t a alone, Abi. Feeling the fear right with you.
Glad we can be in this together. :)
